FORDS FLASHBACK: Men's Soccer Makes it Back-to-Back Titles in 2016

Over the course of the summer, Haverford Athletics will continue to dig into the archives to bring you a "Fords Flashback".

November 6, 2016

Recap | Box Score

The Haverford College men's soccer team became the first school in Centennial Conference history to claim back-to-back regular season and tournament championships in 2016. The Fords were cruising through conference play at the time with a 21-1 record versus CC competition over those two seasons. The 2016 championship season came as the Fords avenged their only CC regular season defeat of those two seasons with a 2-1 win against Franklin & Marshall. Future All-American and Varsity Cup recipient Nick Jannelli '20 opened the scoring during the 28th minute of play and just five minutes later Max Krieg '19 continued his trademark of scoring big goals in big games with the eventual game-winner. The Fords would later go on to win three of four CC Championships with another title in 2018. That contest also featured a memorable goal from Jannelli in a match that just may be another instant classic later this summer. Adding to the bevy of talent on the field that day, Kannerstein Award winner Maclyn Willigan '17 was named the CC Tournament MVP while All-American and Varsity Cup winner Will Corkery '17 and all-region performer Ben Field '18 contributed the two assists.
