HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's soccer team (2-5-1, 1-1-0 CC) was edged by No. 22 Johns Hopkins (5-0-2, 2-0-0) on Saturday at Walton Field, falling by a 1-0 final. In its Centennial Conference home opener, men's soccer looked poised, surrendering just a 50th minute goal as the Blue Jays escaped the hostile confines of Walton with a hard-fought road victory.

Haverford peppered three shots in the first half, with Alex Millones rocketing an attempt on target in the seventh minute, the first salvo for either team. Haverford then had a flurry of action in the attacking third during the 11th minute. After a foul on the Blue Jays, Noah Schwab sent a shot attempt that was blocked by the back line of JHU. The redirection found the head of Andrew Peebles, who fired wide of the goal.

On the other side of the field, the Haverford backline did well to limit the Johns Hopkins chances in the opening 45 minutes, with Dylan Ioffreda being called into action for the first time in the 18th minute. Ioffreda then denied Ian Whamond yet again in the 27th, and stopped a shot from Nate Charendoff in the 33rd.

Johns Hopkins scored on its second shot of the second half, with Alex Whamond sending a cross into teammate Liam Creedon, as Creedon one-timed the volley into the top right of the goal for the 1-0 JHU advantage. From that point, Haverford was looking feverishly for the equalizer, with Millones and Brian Lorenz each having strong chances in the 54th minute. Lorenz put an attempt on frame again in the 56th, and Caleb Miller shot high in the 58th. Ioffreda made sure the Blue Jays advantage would stay at just one goal, making a pair of key saves ahead of more offensive action for Haverford.

Schwab tested Xander LeFevre in the 76th, and Andrew Stephens had his attempt blocked in the 77th. Mouer and Millones each recorded shot attempts in the final minutes of action as the visitors were able to successfully defend those challenges.

Millones and Lorenz each rocketed an attempt on frame, while Ioffreda was again a standout against Johns Hopkins with eight saves in his 90 minutes of action.

The Fords next return to action on Wednesday as they head to Washington College for a 7 p.m. contest in Chestertown. Haverford then returns home next Saturday to begin a stretch of five out of six home matches against No. 17 Muhlenberg (noon).
