HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's soccer team (3-6-1, 2-2 CC) took down conference foes Muhlenberg (4-4-1, 1-3 CC) by a 1-0 final in overtime at home on Walton Field Saturday. In an end-to-end contest, Junior Liam O'Malley's first career goal proved to be the difference to bringing the Fords conference record even at 2-2.

The game finished with both teams even on shot attempts with 11. The two teams looked to gain any advantage they could get as the minutes ticked off the scoreboard. Muhlenberg looked to be the aggressor at the beginning of the game but a solid defensive performance from the Fords eliminated any possible threat the Mules attempted. Early shots from Muhlenberg were blocked or forced wide.

Although the Fords were somewhat on the back foot, the backline handled the pressure well to take the team into halftime still tied at 0-0. Haverford started to look more dangerous in the second half, firing five shots within the first 20 minutes after the intermission. Paul-Andre Coulibaly claimed three shots as he kept the pressure on the opponents in the final third.  Both teams couldn't solidify real chances for the rest of the half, almost guaranteeing that the game would see overtime. Luca Mello and Andrew Peebles both had shots saved by the Mules goalkeeper in the final minutes of the second half.

Haverford held most of the possession in the overtime period. Wanting to put the game to bed, Noah Schwab fired a shot three minutes in, testing the Muhlenberg goalkeeper, who was able to deflect the shot wide and out of danger.

With just three minutes remaining in the extra period, the Fords worked the ball around the right side of the field, looking to break down the Mules in their half. Schwab attempted a cross that would be deflected back out to Peebles. Drifting just to his right was O'Malley at the top right corner of the box. Schwab's run cleared the space for O'Malley as he decided to have a shot himself, catching the Muhlenberg keeper off guard. His shot would find the back of the net, ending the game and prompting a storming of the field from the Haverford side in celebration.

Dylan Ioffreda made four saves in goal, picking up his third win of the season and his second clean sheet.

The Fords are next at home for a non-conference matchup with Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, October 6. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
