HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's soccer team (0-4) dropped an intense 1-0 battle with Main Line foe Eastern (2-1) Saturday, on Saturday afternoon at Walton Field.

Just eight minutes into the contest, the Fords had the first dangerous chance of the day, as Gabe Knopf broke loose into the box and unleashed a shot towards net, but a poised save by Eastern goalkeeper Ty Bleiler turned away the opportunity.

The next 20 minutes saw Eastern get on the end of two opportunities, steering both chances on frame, but it was Haverford's Jackson Simon standing tall in net, dispelling both attacks.

The teams continued to trade chances back and forth for the remainder of the first half, but once the first 45 minutes were up, both teams headed into the halftime break knotted at 0-0.

A prime opportunity came for Haverford's Aidan Lacy 13 minutes into the second stanza, as he sprinted with the ball toward the net. The sophomore put a teasing shot on frame, but yet again was denied by Bleiler to keep the game level at a 0-0 deadlock.

With just six minutes to go in the contest, the Eagles had a strong opportunity to take the lead, when Zach Sievert played in a corner kick. The ball drifted to the head of Kade Seip who was positioned by the back post, and headed the ball past Simon to give the visitors a late 1-0 lead.

After the goal, the skies opened up at Walton Field, with rain and wind making conditions difficult. Despite two late shots fired off by the Fords, Eastern was able to hang on to the 1-0 victory.

Following the Saturday afternoon match, men's soccer will finish off their three-game homestand against the Neumann Knights on Tuesday, September 10. Kickoff for the non-conference match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m at Walton Field.
