Men’s Soccer Ties No. 9 Rowan, 0-0

GLASSBORO, N.J. - The Haverford College men's soccer team (0-4-3) drew level with No. 9 Rowan (2-1-3) 0-0 on Tuesday, as dark clouds and wind swarmed Rowan Soccer & Lacrosse Complex throughout the contest.

Johnny Troiano had the first dangerous chance of the game in the fourth minute, as the Rowan junior broke loose with the ball past the Haverford backline. The dangerous forward ripped a shot on frame, but Jackson Simon cut the angle off well and made the vital save.

Troiano found another dangerous break in the ninth minute, unleashing his second shot of the game, but Simon yet again dove to his right to turn away the chance.

Haverford's first chance of the game came from John Dowd in the 34th minute. Dowd fired a shot towards the top right corner, but was denied by Prof keeper Dylan Aportela.

After 45 minutes of play, both teams headed into the halftime break deadlocked at 0-0. Rowan held a 6-1 shot advantage in the first stanza, putting two of those shots on target.

Rowan kept knocking on the door in the first 20 minutes of the second half, as two more shots on target on frame by Troiano were denied by Simon, keeping the game at 0-0 in the 62nd minute.

The Scarlet and Black continued to go toe-to-toe with the Profs, as the Haverford backline was able to keep their shape and dispel multiple chances from the Rowan offense.

In the 84th minute, the Profs were on the prowl again. After multiple passes around the box, Chris Spicer unleashed a right-footed curling bending towards the cross bar. Simon anticipated the shot and was able to push it up and over the bar to keep the game knotted at a 0-0 score.

The chance from Spicer was the last threatening opportunity of the game from either team, as both teams found themselves even at 0-0 once the final whistle blew.

Rowan held an 18-7 shot advantage, while Simon came up clutch for the Scarlet and Black, making six key saves.

The result marks the first tie against a ranked opponent since the 2023 season, where Haverford tied No. 9 Franklin & Marshall at Walton Field, a year and a day to the date.

Men's soccer will be back in action Saturday, September 21, as the Fords will begin conference play with a road match in Lancaster, Pa., against the Diplomats of F&M. Kickoff on Tylus Field is slated for 6 p.m.
