Full CSC Academic All-District Release
HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's soccer team had six members named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, as announced in a release on Tuesday.
To be eligible for Academic All-District recognition, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore both academically and athletically, participate in 90 percent of their team's contests or start in at least 66 percent, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.
Senior captain Joey Carol was joined by juniors Andrew Fritz, Juan Rivera, and Gabe Knopf, along with sophomores Kieran Kunihiro and Thomas Vanni, on the regional academic squad this season.
Carol, a native of Cornelius, N.C., appeared in 18 matches for the Scarlet and Black in 2024, starting 14. Splitting time between the backline and midfield, the senior registered five shots and contributed to three clean sheets, showcasing his dynamic versatility on the pitch.
Ranking second on the team in points, Fritz tallied three goals and two assists in 2024. The Ellicott City, Md., native delivered a crucial goal in a pivotal matchup against Gettysburg (Sept. 28) and finished the season with 22 total shots.
Rivera, donning one of the captain's armbands in his junior campaign, contributed three goals, including two converted penalty kicks. The Miami, Fla., native placed seven of his 14 shots on target, consistently stepping up in key moments for the Scarlet and Black.
A dynamic presence on the wing, Knopf contributed one goal and one assist while recording 31 shots, third-most on the team. The junior captain from New York, N.Y., found the back of the net in a victory against Centenary (N.J.) and placed 11 shots on frame.
Kunihiro anchored the defense with 18 appearances, including 17 starts. The Menlo Park, Calif., product excelled as both a center back and outside back, proving to be a threat on set pieces. He netted goals against Washington College (Oct. 13) and Swarthmore (Nov. 2), demonstrating his ability to make an impact on both ends of the field.
Leading the Fords' attack, Vanni paced the team with four goals and a team-high 10 points. The Wilmington, Del., native tied for fifth in the Centennial Conference with 55 shots and tied for fourth with 27 shots on goal, cementing his role as a consistent offensive catalyst.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, honor the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program recognizes honorees across four divisions: NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees are eligible for consideration on the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot, where CSC members will vote. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on Dec. 10, 2024.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially supported financially by NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC in handling awards fulfillment for the 2024-25 season.
