Men’s tennis extends winning streak to five with victory over Mules

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team picked up its fifth consecutive victory after knocking off visiting Muhlenberg College, 7-2, in a Centennial Conference match Wednesday afternoon at the Bramall Courts.

With the win, Haverford is now 6-5 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference play. The Fords are ranked 15th in the Atlantic South Region. Muhlenberg goes to 1-7 overall and 0-4 against the Centennial.

The Fords got off to a strong start by sweeping the doubles matches. Lowell West and Aaron Weitz needed a tie-break in the No. 3 match to secure the sweep. West and Weitz won their match against Ari Nutovits and Jason Kirschenbaum 9-8 (7-5). Kevin Caulfield and Danny Himelstein were victorious in the No. 1 match. Joseph Tan and Devin Van Dyke came through with a point, taking the No. 2 match.

Andy Dougherty came from a set down to Jordan Rutt in his No. 1 singles match to earn the point. After dropping the first set 4-6, Dougherty recovered to win the second set (6-1) and the tie-break (9-7). Matt Romei and Tan needed set tie-break wins on their way to earning points. Romei picked up his team-leading ninth win with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) decision in the No. 2 match. Tan took the No. 6 match 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. Jacob Weisenthal was also a winner for the Fords in the No. 3 pairing.

Haverford returns to the court on Thursday, April 6 with a home match against Division II University of the Sciences at 4 p.m.
