Men’s tennis downs McDaniel , 9-0; two Fords earn first career wins

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team got back on the winning track after picking up a 9-0 win over Centennial Conference foe McDaniel College Saturday afternoon in Alumni Field House.

Haverford, ranked 15th in the region, improves to 2-5 overall and 2-0 in Centennial play. McDaniel is now 4-4 overall and 0-2 against the conference.

Five of the six Ford victories in singles action came in straight sets. John Cummings needed a tie-break to earn his first collegiate victory, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (7-5). Aaron Madow also picked up his first career win as well. Chris Steinroeder and Aaron Weitz were victorious in their first matches of the season.

At the No. 3 doubles position, Alex Lee and Bruce Leto won a hard-fought match, 9-8 (7-5), for their first win as a tandem. Joseph Tan and Devin Van Dyke had an easier time on their way to victory number one, winning by an 8-3 score at the No. 2 spot.

Haverford continues conference play Tuesday, hosting Washington College at 3:30 p.m.
