Fords stretch win streak with victory over Ursinus

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College's men's tennis team downed visiting Ursinus College, 7-2, Monday afternoon in a Centennial Conference match on the Fords' Bramall Courts. The victory is the third straight for Haverford, it's third three-match win streak of the season.

Will Garrett and Natty Sergay made quick work of their Ursinus (12-9, 1-7 CC) opponents at No. 3 doubles with an 8-1 win for the first point of the day for Haverford (10-5, 6-2).

The Bears were able to even the score with a win at No. 2 but the home squad was able to move into singles action with a 2-1 lead after Haverford's Kevin Caulfield and Danny Himelstein teamed up at 1-doubles for a 9-7 win against Evan Stutchin and Matt Hope.

Straight set singles wins from Andy Dougherty at No. 3, Jacob Weisenthal at 4, Garrett at 5 and Sloan Millman at 6-singles clinched the match for Haverford.

In the second-to-last match of the day, the Fords' Matt Romei battled for a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Evan Lord at 2-singles.

Monday's final match extended toward sunset as Ursinus' Stutchin out lasted Sergay 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 1 for the Bears' lone singles point.

Haverford travels to The College of New Jersey on Wednesday for a non-league match before heading to Swarthmore College on Saturday for a conference outing in the final regular season contest on the Fords' schedule. The Garnet are ranked eighth while Haverford is 12th in the latest  Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South region poll. New Jersey is 12th in the ITA's Northeast region rankings.
