FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Haverford College senior Kevin Caulfield's run through the Championship Singles tournament of the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association 2012 Division III Southeast Regional finally came to an end in the semifinal round with a 2-1 loss to the eventual tournament champion.

Monday's match began well for Caulfield as he nabbed the opening set with a 6-3 win over Johns Hopkins University's Andy Hersh, the 2011 champion. Hersh stormed back against Caulfield to take a pair of 6-1 victories and move on to the championship match where he defeated Washington & Lee's Hayden White in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.

Caulfield began his push in the Championship bracket by winning a pair of Saturday matches in straight sets, dropping a total of six games during his 2-0 victories.

In Sunday morning's round of 16 against Sam Weissler of Johns Hopkins, Caulfield fell behind for the first time at the Regional dropping the opening set, 7-5. But he responded with 6-1, 6-1 wins in the second and third sets to sail past Weissler into the quarterfinals where another Blue Jay, Erick Lim, awaited.

Caulfield raced to a 1-0 lead in the afternoon quarterfinal, dropping Lim by a 6-2 count but the Hopkins player evened the match with a 6-3 second-set victory. Caulfield rallied from the set loss by rolling to a 6-0 win to capture the match and move into Monday's semifinal round.

The USTA/ITA Southeast Regional championship was hosted by the University of Mary Washington. In addition to the Championship singles bracket, nine other brackets -- rated B1 to B9 -- were also completed with Haverford's Jacob Weisenthal winning the B3 tournament on Sunday. Seven doubles tournaments were also played at the Regional with Haverford's Andy Dougherty and Sloan Millman capturing the B2 doubles crown on Sunday.
