Bullets go quietly in Fords' 9-0 men's tennis victory

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College's men's tennis team opened its Centennial Conference slate Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 win over visiting Gettysburg College, downing the Bullets without dropping a set on the courts of The Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center in Alumni Field House.

Haverford  (1-4, 1-0 CC) rolled to easy wins in doubles action, then swept through the Bullets (1-5, 0-1) in singles play to capture the Fords first victory of the season.

Kevin Caulfield and Danny Himelstein earned a quick 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles for the Fords' opening point of the day. Matthew Cebul and Matt Romei captured Haverford's second point with an 8-2 win over Mike Pratt and Johnny Nelson at 2-doubles, then Luis Acaba and Sloan Millman completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 3.

Romei picked up the fourth point of the day with an easy 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and Caulfield was able to clinch the match with an equally easy 6-0, 6-0 win at 1-singles.

Andy Dougherty (pictured) kept the 6-0, 6-0 roll going with his win over Kyle Shope at No. 4.

In all, the Fords surrendered a measly total of just 10 games while sweeping the Bullets in straight sets over the six singles contests.

Haverford will square off against visiting Randolph-Macon College in a non-conference match-up Thursday at 4 p.m. for it's next outing before jumping back into Centennial play with three conference dates.
