Fords win second straight Centennial match

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Haverford College's men's tennis team took a young squad to McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon yet still downed the host Green Terror by an 8-1 count in a Centennial Conference match-up.

The Fords (3-4, 2-0 CC) traveled to McDaniel (2-6,0-2) and posted a lineup comprised of mostly freshmen and sophomores, allowing the top of the their ladder to watch its younger teammates gain experience on the courts.

Doubles action saw the Fords rush out to a 3-0 lead before the singles competitors closed out the road victory.

Haverford rolled to straight set victories in five singles matches with freshman Luis Acaba at No. 1, sophomore Sloan Millman at 3, and junior Robert Homan at No. 4 having easier times as the trio surrendered just a combined total of six games to their Green Terror opponents.

Freshman Harrison Elbert picked up a quick, 6-3, victory for the Fords at 5-singles but McDaniel's Ryan Salomon put up a challenge in the second set before falling to Elbert, 7-6. Sophomore Joshua Lederman battled to a 6-4 first-set victory over the Green Terror's Matthew Langsdale at No. 6 and was tested in the second set before Lederman fought to a 7-6 win to close out the match.

Next up for Haverford is a visit from Washington College on Tuesday afternoon for a 4 p.m. Centennial contest.
