Fords sweep Ursinus in 9-0 win

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Haverford College's men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 Centennial Conference victory Wednesday afternoon at Ursinus College as five Fords picked up two wins each in the match on the Ace Bailey Courts.

Haverford (9-6, 6-2 CC) won for the second time in a row with Wednesday's triumph while Ursinus (13-6, 4-4) had a five-match win streak snapped.

Matt Romei and Matthew Cebul picked up the Fords' first point of the day, taking a quick 8-1 match from Tyler Arsenault and Dylan Marsh at No. 2 doubles. The next Haverford point came from an 8-5 win at 1-doubles from the tandem of Kevin Caulfield and Danny Himelstein.

The third doubles match took an extra game for a winner to be determined but Andy Dougherty and Sloan Millman beat back Mike Melchiorre and David Rowe for a hard-fought 9-7 win.

Caulfield at 1-singles, Romei at No. 2, Dougherty at 3, Cebul at 5 and Millman at No. 6 all won for Haverford with each capturing a second win on the day.

Zack Mason added a singles point for the Fords with a straight-set win over the Bears' Marsh at No. 4.

Dougherty had the toughest fight on the day. After winning his opening set by a 6-2 score, Ursinus' Arsenault battled back with a 6-2 win in the second set. The pair played evenly throughout the third set before Dougherty was able to outlast his opponent, 7-5, in the final set.

Haverford closes out the regular season schedule Saturday with a home match against 26th-ranked Swarthmore College.
