BALTIMORE - The Haverford College men's tennis team earned its way into the Centennial Conference championship match for the third straight season with Saturday's semifinal victory, but ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins University was too strong for the visiting Fords as the Blue Jays captured their seventh straight crown with a 5-0 win Sunday afternoon to end Haverford's season.

The Fords (11-7) fell behind in doubles action by a 3-0 count and weren't able to recover in singles play as Hopkins (18-2) clinched the title by winning at 2- and 4-singles.

The pairing of Matthew Cebul and Matt Romei at No. 2 doubles produced the biggest challenge from Haverford as the duo battled Hopkins' Nicholas Garcia and Noah Joachim deep into their match before falling 9-7 to the home-standing Blue Jays tandem.

Kevin Caulfield and Danny Himelstein at No. 1 doubles, and Luis Acaba and Sloan Millman at No. 3 doubles lost their matches by identical 8-3 scores.

Hopkins' Andy Hesh was able to earn the fourth point of the match with a straight-set win over Romei at No. 2 singles, and Erik Lim clinched the match for the Blue Jays with a straight-set victory at 4-singles over the Fords' Zack Mason.

The remaining matches went unfinished after the clinching, fifth point was earned by the home team, but Caulfield owned a one-set advantage over Tanner Brown at 1-singles when the match was stopped.

The 11-win season by Haverford marks the 10th time since the 2000 campaign that the Fords have reached double-digits in the wins category.
