Fords net 1st win of season

HUMACAO, Puerto Rico – The Haverford College men's tennis team earned its first win of the 2014 season with a 5-4 non-conference victory over Wabash College on Monday morning. Luis Acaba picked up two wins for the Fords, pairing with Sloan Millman for a doubles victory then battling for his second point with a win at No. 1 singles.

Acaba and Millman were one of three pairings that gave Haverford (1-1) a 3-0 lead over Wabash (5-9) after doubles action.

Harrison Elbert and Matt Romei teamed up at No. 2 while John Cummings and Robert Homan were the No. 3 tandem to go along with Acaba and Millman at 1-doubles.

Two singles points, from Acaba at No. 1 and Andy Dougherty at No. 4, clinched the victory for Haverford.

Dougherty made quick work of Wabash's Nate Koelper, powering to a 6-2, 6-1 win.

Acaba dropped his first set, 6-1, to Wade Miller before rolling to 6-1, 6-2 wins in the second and third sets to clinch the victory and winning point for the Fords.
