FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Haverford College men's tennis team nearly extended its weekend to championship Sunday at the ITA Southeast Regional with some impressive play on Saturday. The Fords sent the doubles pairing of Josh Moskovitz and Kevin Yan into the quarterfinal round, while Moskovitz also advanced to that same line on the singles bracket. However, both Haverford runs through the championship draw finished just shy of semifinal appearances.

The doubles pairing of Moskovitz and Yan got the day off to a quick start as it toppled opponents from Mary Washington by an 8-6 score during the Round of 16. However, the Moskovitz/Yan duo saw its run through the regional championship draw come to a close with a hard-fought 8-5 match against Salisbury during the quarterfinals.

Moskovitz continued his busy weekend with another singles victory during the Round of 16 on Saturday afternoon. He defeated Michael Fleming of host Mary Washington by a 6-3, 6-2 score for his third straight-set victory of the weekend. In his quarterfinal match-up, the Fords' senior captain found himself up against the top-ranked player in the region and No. 5 player in the nation from a year ago. Moskovitz tested Carnegie Mellon's Daniel Levine early in the second set and was on-serve midway through before a break point led to an eventual 6-3 second set victory and advancement for Levine.

With his impressive showings in singles and doubles, Moskovitz finished the week a combined 6-2 between singles and doubles play. He is the first Haverford player since All-American Kevin Caulfield '13 to advance to the quarterfinal round of the ITA Regional Championship. Caulfield did so en route to the semifinals during the fall of his senior season.

In other flights, Arnav Patodia and Nick Sweeney advanced to the championship match of the Flight A doubles draw. That pairing opened play Saturday morning with another 8-3 win against a duo from Stevenson this weekend. Pitted against Centennial Conference foes from Dickinson in the championship match, it took extra points during a tiebreak before the title ultimately went to the Red Devils' pairing.

Sweeney bounced back in singles action by winning his two consolation round matches of the Flight B singles draw on Saturday afternoon. He won both of those matches by identical 6-2, 6-2 scores, defeating Dickinson's Andrew Lai and Hampden-Sydney's Tyler Brice. In late action Friday night, Patodia dropped a pair of heart-breaking tiebreaks during the quarterfinals of Flight C singles to his opponent from Muhlenberg. That match featured a first set tiebreak that was tied at 13-all before either player could gain a two-point advantage.

Men's tennis will put a wrap on its fall season next Saturday, October 6 as the team welcomes back its alumni for the annual Alumni Match that is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
