Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team
PHILADELPHIA – Josh Moskovitz, the 2019 Centennial Conference Player of the Year, has been named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Tennis Player of the Year. The all-area team of six individuals is voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. In addition Moskovitz's player of the year honors, he was joined on the academic all-area team by Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year Kevin Yan.
Those two selections make Haverford the only school in the Philadelphia area (Division I, II, and III) with multiple honorees on the team. In order to be eligible for academic all-area honors, an athlete must be in his second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.
Moskovitz is the first player in the history of the Haverford College men's tennis program to earn the academic all-area performer of the year award. However, the Fords are no stranger to receiving such honors as they have had two representatives on the six-man team during each of the last three seasons.
The Fords' senior captain is earning his third consecutive honor in as many eligible seasons, becoming the first player in program history to also hold that distinction. Moskovitz finished the year as the No. 11-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South Region. Moskovitz finished his career as a four-time All-Centennial Conference performer in both singles and doubles. He earned first-team All-CC recognition during each of the last three years for singles and each of the last two years for doubles. Moskovitz went 18-7 (6-2 CC) in singles during his senior campaign to finish his career with 49 victories in singles and 91 combined wins.
Kevin Yan joined Moskovitz to form the No. 14-ranked doubles pairing in the Atlantic South Region this spring. A team captain as a junior, Yan is now a three-time All-Centennial Conference selection in singles, earning first-team accolades during his 2017 rookie of the year campaign. Yan also earned first-team All-CC recognition in doubles for the first time this year after garnering second-team accolades in 2018. Yan went 16-9 (7-2 CC) in singles this year playing at No. 2 in the lineup. He combined for a 13-10 record (7-1 CC) in doubles at the top of the Fords' lineup.
Men's tennis finished the year ranked No. 12 as a team in the final Atlantic South Rankings. The Fords have now made the Centennial Conference Tournament in nine straight seasons and 13 of 14 years since the tournament's inception in 2006. The team's 13 dual victories this spring was just one shy of tying the school record which was previously set in 1994.
