Men's Tennis Falls to TCNJ, 9-0

EWING TOWNSHIP, N.J. - The Haverford College men's tennis team (4-4) made the trip to Ewing Township on the second day of a back-to-back. The Fords took on TCNJ, falling to the hosts by a 9-0 final. Many matches were close but Haverford just couldn't get over the hump in the end to threaten TCNJ.

Haverford battled but would fall short in the doubles competitions. The closest match of the day was the duo of Max Beckwith and James McKenzie up against Brett Schuster and Olufela Fieulleteau. TCNJ would prevail after the match went to a tiebreaker set that Brett Schuster and Olufela Fieulleteau won 7-4.

The Fords would drop the next two doubles matches as the pairing of Harrison Maitland-Carter/Matthew Michibata took an 8-5 decision from Stefan Johnson and Adam Chow. Then, Justin Minerva and Aiden Kim would fall to Akul Telluri and Nick Matkiwsky 8-6.

The Lions continued to dominate despite two of the six singles matches going three sets. Andreas Wingert battled for three sets, dropping the first 6-3 before coming back to win the second 6-4. Michibata would get the better of Wingert in the tiebreaker, grabbing the win 11-9.

Minerva found himself in the same position. Minerva would win the first set against Shuster 6-4 with eyes on earning the Fords their first point. However, Schuster took down Minerva in the second set 6-4 before taking the tiebreaker 10-7.

Johnson, Kim, McKenzie, and Dan Loder all suffered losses in their singles matchups as the Fords went winless on the day.

In the end, Haverford split their weekend matchups and now sit 4-4 on the season. Already 1-0 in conference play this season, the Fords will continue their conference schedule against Washington College on Wednesday, March 29. The first serve in Maryland is scheduled for 4 p.m. Then on the weekend, Haverford will face off with Gettysburg in an away match on Saturday, April 1.
