HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford men's tennis team (6-7) secured a 6-3 win over #40 Christopher Newport (8-7) on Friday at the Bramall Courts on the Haverford campus. The Fords took control early in doubles play, winning two of three matches to take the early 2-1 lead in the overall match, and then impressed in singles competition to secure a big regional win over the traveling Captains.

Haverford's Adam Chow and Justin Minerva were the first duo to win, posting an 8-3 victory over Vincent Truong and Ahun Vodela. The Fords' top doubles team of James McKenzie and Stefan Johnson then earned a hard-fought 8-7 win over Alec Strause and Nesh Kumaresan in a tiebreak (7-3) to give Haverford the early momentum. Christopher Newport's Alex Seretis and Ashton Legum later claimed the third doubles match by winning a tiebreak (12-10) over  Abhinav Nallapareddy and Kirin Eicher.

The Fords continued to build on their lead in singles play, winning four of six matches. Ahun Vodela gave Christopher Newport its first singles win with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Aiden Kim at the third singles position to knot the match score at 2-2. However, Haverford's Andreas Wingert quickly answered back with a convincing 6-4, 6-1 win over Jake Dolphin at the second singles spot to regain the lead for the Fords.

Stefan Johnson's victory at first singles proved to be an integral part of Haverford climbing towards the victory. After splitting the first two sets, Johnson claimed the final set 6-4 to defeat Strause and give the Fords a 4-3 lead.

Christopher Newport's Ryan Monroe earned a win at the sixth singles position, but Haverford's James McKenzie clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 triumph over Vincent Truong at the fourth singles spot.

Justin Minerva also earned a singles win for Haverford, coming back from a second set loss to defeat Ashton Legum 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. The final match of the day went to Christopher Newport, as Adam Chow fell to Ryan Monroe 6-4, 6-1.

The Fords' win improves their record to 6-7 on the season. The Captains of Christopher Newport fall to 8-7 overall on the season with the defeat.

The win over a nationally-ranked opponent should provide a significant boost to Haverford's confidence as the team prepares for the rest of its schedule, which continues right back into Centennial Conference play on Saturday against Franklin & Marshall at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey, Pa.
