Men's Tennis Wraps Up ITA Southeast Regional Action at Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Haverford College men's tennis team wrapped up its stint at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships last weekend at the University of Mary Washington. With rain altering much of the schedule, action was moved to indoor courts on Friday before select matches were able to get outside on Saturday. 

Championship Singles
In Championship singles action on Friday, action was shifted to a single pro-set format due to the weather. James McKenzie grabbed an 8-4 win over Andreas Mulner of Randolph in a morning matchup, before falling to Daniel Kong of Carnegie Mellon by an 8-7 (7-3) final in the Round of 32. Elsewhere, Marko Arboleda took the ninth overall seed and was an early winner over Tyler Blanz (8-3), before falling to Artem Babaiev of Shenandoah in a tiebreaker 8-7 (12-10) in the Round of 32. 

B1 Singles
In the B1 draw on Saturday, Niki Lavu blanked Jacob Nelson of Saint Mary's College of Maryland in an 8-0 rout to begin play, and continued his momentum into a quarterfinal matchup with Rainer Christansen of Christopher Newport, prevailing by an 8-5 tally. Moving into the semifinals, Lavu went toe-to-toe with Fernando Limon of Carnegie Mellon, but fell by an 8-6 tally to conclude his stint in the bracket. 

B2 Singles
In the B2 singles bracket, Danny Loder matched up with Albert Vladimirskiy of Mary Washington in the first round Saturday, falling by an 8-6 final. Loder then squared off with Sihoo Kim of Washington College in the consolation quarters, but fell 8-4 to end his weekend. Chait Krishna defeated Christopher Newport's Alex Seretis by an 8-2 final in first round action, but fell in his quarterfinal matchup against Matt Scott of Washington College by an 8-6 final. 

B3 Singles
First-year Owen Kilmer made a run to the B3 semifinals, with a first round win over Noah Pe of Stevens (8-5). The triumph set up a battle with William Fromherz of Mary Washington, with Kilmer again prevailing by an 8-4 tally. In the semis,  Britton Buckingham of Washington & Lee prevailed past Kilmer in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-2). Justin Minerva made quick work of Keldibek Kozhoev of Mary Washington in the first round, blanking the Eagles player 8-0, but fell to Brian Yi of rival Johns Hopkins in round two by an 8-2 final. 

Championship Doubles
Kilmer and Arboleda received a first-round bye in doubles action to begin things on Friday morning, setting up a Round of 32 matchup against Dominick Suwak and Artem Babaiev of Shenandoah. The Shenandoah pairing prevailed in an 8-3 pro set. The ninth-seeded pairing of James McKenzie and Justin Minerva similarly earned a bye to the Round of 32, and were defeated in a tiebreaker by Jacob Martin and Ondra Pelda of Randolph College,  8-7 (7-3). 

B1 Doubles
In B1 doubles action, the pairing of Daniel Loder and Max Beckwith were dispatched by Andreas Mulner and Vincenzo Marchese of Randolph by a 6-2 final. Beckwith and Loder responded to take down Dhaivik Chenemilla and Johny Haase of Stevens, 6-3. The pairing of Andreas Wingert and Maxfield Ma won against conference foes David Kohl Perkins and Julian Sealy of Washington College, taking a 6-2 win before falling in the quarterfinals to Andy Zhu and Joshua Kim of Johns Hopkins by a 6-3 final. 

Krishna and Sahil Prakash were defeated 6-3 by Nick O'Dea and Chris Catan of Salisbury, before falling in a tiebreaker to Braden Chavez and Jonathan Gu of Carnegie Mellon in a consolation matchup by a 7-6 (7-3) final. Zach Miano and Teo Bortan were defeated by Ryan Good and Sanjheev Rao of Washington & Lee by a 7-5 decision before roaring back for a 6-1 win over Tristan Wroe and Noah Pe of Stevens in the consols. 

Haverford has just one remaining date of fall competition on the docket, as the Fords will welcome Chestnut Hill to campus for a scrimmage at the end of the month, with action slated for 4 p.m. on October 30.
