WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Junior Charlie Marquardt ran to a fifth place finish in the 3,000m event at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships on Saturday afternoon at the JDL Fast Track.

Marquardt was the only representative for the Haverford College men's indoor track and field team at the national meet.

Appearing in his third indoor national championship, the junior ran an 8:16.81 to record his first individual All-American award. The top eight finishers in in the official standings were presented with All-America certificates. Marquardt also picked up an All-American accolade as the opening leg in the Fords' runner-up distance medley relay last year. 

Jake Campbell of St. Olaf won the event with an 8:10.55, just ahead of his teammate Grant Wintheiser. Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Josh Thorson, North Central's Travis Morrison, Wisconsin-Whitewater's Dawson Miller, RIT's Matt Giannino and William's Aldis Inde also were given All-American certificates.

Marquardt became just the second Haverford runner to earn All-America honors in the indoor 3,000 meters. Christopher Stadler '14 became the first Fords runner to accomplish this feat with a fifth place finish in a time of 8:16.63 during the 2014 championship.

The junior's banner indoor season comes to an end. He won the Centennial Conference Outstanding Track Performer after winning the 800m, mile and 4x800 relay events at the conference championship. He won the conference's runner of the week award three times and posted the best time in Division III in the mile and 3,000m.

With Marquardt's run, the indoor season has finished. The first outdoor meet of the track & field season is scheduled for Friday, March 21 when the team travels to Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania for the Philadelphia College Classic.
