GRINNELL, Iowa. – The Haverford College men's indoor track & field team was represented by Charlie Marquardt in the mile run on the second day of the NCAA Championship. The Haverford senior finished the mile in second place with a time of 4:10.62. He also competed in the distance medley team Friday, finishing in 11th place with a team total time of 10:00.32.

By finishing second, he became a five-time All-American. He was also an indoor All-American in the 3,000 meters in 2015 and the distance medley relay team in 2014. In addition, he received the accolade in cross country and outdoor track.

The Pasadena, California native had been considered the favorite in the event after he ran the fifth-fastest mile (4:02.24) in Division III indoor track and field history earlier this season. The back-to-back Centennial Conference Outstanding Indoor Track Performer of the Year qualified for today's final on Friday by finishing second in his heat with a time of 4:13.92. In the final heat, he finished just over a half of a second behind first place, St. Olaf's Paul Escher at 4:10.10. Marquardt led for a good portion of the run.

Marquardt placed fifth in the 3,000 meters during last year's indoor championship. He was the national runner-up in the 1,500 meters during the outdoor season of his junior season.

With Marquardt's final run, the 2015-16 indoor track & field season has come to a finish. The outdoor track and field season will begin on April 1 in the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener.
