Schilit breaks school, Centennial records in 5,000

CHESTER, Pa. – Haverford College's men's outdoor track & field team split the squad venturing to different meets over the weekend but brought home strong results including junior Jordan Schilit's record-breaking 5,000 meter run Friday night at Princeton University.

Schilit finished second in the 5,000 at the Larry Ellis Memorial in Princeton, N.J., cruising around the Weaver Stadium track in a time of 13 minutes, 59.21 seconds, shattering the Centennial Conference record (14:19.57, J.B. Haglund, Haverford, 4/27/02) and surpassing the school record (14:04.90, Seamus McElligott, 5/11/91). Schilit's time is the fifth-fastest 5,000 by any Division III runner.

Teammate Andrew Golato posted a 17th-place finish in the 800 with a career-best time of 1:51.75 which should crack the top-10 among D-III performers after all the weekend's results are posted.

Also performing well at Princeton were Tim Schoch and Eric Arnold who both posted season-best times in the 1,500.

At the 2012 Widener Invitational in Chester, Pa., several Fords posted career bests Saturday.

Sam Callon raced to a fourth-place time of 49.95 seconds in the 400 and 22.88 in the 200 to record new career marks in both events. Michael Riccio was fourth in the 1,500 in a best time of 3:55.81, and Patrick Haneman was ninth in the 5,000 with a new career mark of 15:22.33.

The Fords get to race on their own track in the next meet on the schedule. The Haverford Tri-Meet will hit the Johnson Track on Tuesday starting at 4 p.m.
