Men’s Track & Field Secures 10th Place in the WCU Bill Butler Invitational

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The Haverford College Men's track and Field Team competed in the WCU Bill Butler Invitational Saturday, finishing in 10th place with 25 points. 

In the 100 meters, Jonathan Hill darted to a time of 11.32, to claim 12th place. Hill's teammate Jason Mayo dashed to a time of 11.76, a new personal best, to take home 33rd place. In 48th place was Nathan Ma (12.16), while Jonah Hoffman-Weitsman (12.22, new personal best) finished in 51st. 

Kevin Villafane slotted into 62nd (12.90, new personal best), while Hongyi Zhang capped off the sprint in 71st (14.41).

Over at the 200 meters, Hill shined once again, taking home fifth place with a time of 22.74, to add four more points to Haverford's score. In 46th place was Mayo, dashing to a time of 24.37. Ma (25.00) and Hoffman-Weitsman (25.03, new personal best) finished 63rd and 64th, while Gordon grabbed 74th place with a time of 26.04. Other notable finishers in the event were Ruiz (77th, 26.48, new personal best), Villafane (79th, 26.69), Boahen Kwakye (81st, 26.78), and Zhang (87th, 30.26, new personal best).

Over at the 400 meters, Haverford had three participants compete, as Vir Goyal led the trio by placing 23rd with a time of 52.82, securing a new personal best. Leo Gordon matched a personal best time of 56.54, after finishing in 42nd place, while Matthew Ruiz's time of 59.98 (new personal best) cemented 48th place.

The 800 meters saw Sam Diaz grab 27th place with a time of 2:07.20, followed by Gopal Patel, who finished 30th, with a time of 2:07.20.

At the 1500 meters, Matthew Denton took home first place with a time of 4:02.23, to give the Fords a big 10 points on the scoreboard. Delivering six points to the Fords was Micah Lachman, who finished the race in third place with a time of 4:07.52. Making his debut in the event, Owen Bluman raced out to fifth place ( four points) with a time of 4:10.75. Grabbing the final spot in the top eight (one point), Luca Ponticello crossed the finish line in just 4:12.44. Ponticello was able to shave off 2.04 seconds from his previous personal best time with the impressive finish.

Just behind Ponticello was Jakob Maiwald, who placed ninth with a time of 4:14.07. Joseph De Rosa placed 12th with a time of 4:14.85 (new personal best), while Luke de Valpine (4:15.41) and Sammy Schindel (4:15.94) finished in 14th and 15th respectively.

The other Haverford finishers of the 1500 meters included William Harris (28th, 4:24.16), Deven Abrams (41st, 4:34.77), Kieran McDonnell (45th, 4:39.32, new personal best), Seawon Park (46th, 4:40.08, new personal best), Xingyun Yang (49th, 4:42.94, new personal best), Cullen Worth (51st, 4:50.13), and Rowan Shigeno (54th, 4:51.97).

In the sand, Ravi Eaton competed in the men's long jump, leaping a distance of 5.55 meters (18 feet, 2-and-a-half inches), to place 25th.

In the throwing pit, Rocky Luan launched the shot put 9.98 meters (32 feet, 9 inches) for a new personal best, to claim 22nd place. For the discus throw, Jonah Levine hurled the discus 25.67 meters (84 feet and 2.63 inches), to secure 25th place, while Luan hurled the discus 20.72 meters (67 feet, 11.7 inches), grabbing 29th place.

The Fords will be back in action Friday, April 19, in Chester, Pa. for the Paul Donahue Invitational. The two-day event will take place at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium on the campus of Widener University, with Friday evening's events starting at 5 p.m.
