Sokas wins 5,000m at Danny Curran Invite

CHESTER, Pa. – Brian Sokas led a host of Fords, and the rest of the field, Friday night in the Danny Curran Invitational's 5,000-meter run as Haverford College pushed five of the first six runners across the line at the track & field team's opening meet of the outdoor season.

Sokas captured the event with a career-best time of 14 minutes, 55.73 seconds to edge out unattached runner Charles Murphy by nearly two seconds.

The first-place time by Sokas wasn't the only career-best for the Fords. Teammate Avi Bregman registered a new best with his third-place time of 14:58.84 which was a second ahead of fellow Ford and freshman Charlie Marquardt (14:59.67).

David Roza (15:07.22) in fifth and Joel Christian (15:09.31) also set new career marks in the 5,000.

The invitational, hosted by Widener University, continues Friday morning with Haverford runners entered in the 1,500 and 800-meter runs.
