Mid-season performances strong for men's track & field

EWING, N.J. – Working its way through the middle portion of the outdoor track & field season, Haverford College's men's team made the short trip across the border Saturday afternoon for The College of New Jersey Invitational and brought home several strong results led by first-place finishes from Charlie Marquardt and David Roza.

Marquardt was the first of four Haverford runners to finish in the top six in the 3,000-meter run, capturing the event title with a time of 8 minutes, 25.64 seconds. Teammate Michael Riccio was third (8:30.62) while Joel Christian (8:48.90) and Ivo Milic-Strkalj (8:49.88) were fifth and sixth, respectively.

Roza edged out teammate Avi Bregman in the 1,500 with a winning time of 4:01.49, out leaning Bregman at the finish. Both Roza and Bregman (4:01.90) registered career-best times in their 1-2 finish for Haverford. Freshman Sam Fujimori was fifth with a time of 4:05.88.

Another freshman, Jeffrey Ainsley, battled out of the preliminary heats of the 110 hurdles to finish fifth in the final, clocking a season-best time of 15.69 seconds.

The 4x400 relay cracked the top five at the Invitational with a fifth-place finish. The quartet of Gebby Keny (pictured), Jonathan Yellets, James Torain and Sam Callon posted a season-best time of 3:26.17.

Off the track, Gibby Graves leaped to his collegiate-best distance of 6.62 meters (21 feet, 8.75 inches) to place sixth in the long jump.

The Fords will spread the team across a pair of meets this upcoming weekend with a handful of runners heading to Princeton University on Friday night for the Larry Ellis Distance Meet, while the rest of the team will travel to Chester, Pa., on Friday and Saturday for the Widener Invitational.
