SWARTHMORE, Pa. - After two days of competition at the Centennial Conference outdoor track and field championships, the Haverford College men's track and field team is currently in second place with 63 points.
The 3,000-meter steeplechase final saw Haverford claim the top two spots. Senior Avi Bregman won the event for the third straight year with a result of 9 minutes, 0.71 seconds and posted the best mark at the event at the conference meet in 12 years. Teammate David Roza ran a career-best time of 9:05.46 and finished second.
The long jump saw Gibby Graves leap his way to the best distance at the Centennial meet since 2006. Graves captured the title with his best jump of 7.16 meters (23 feet, 6 inches).
The 4x800-meter relay saw the quartet of Soren Rasmussen, Cormac Rada, Chris Gardner and Gebby Keny finish fourth with a time of 7:46.71.
Keny and teammate Charlie Marquardt reached the finals in the 800-meter run after posting top-eight finishes in the prelims on Saturday. Marquardt took fifth in 1:56.57 and Keny was right behind him in sixth at 1:59.26.
Sophomore Jonathan Yellets had a great day on the track qualify for the finals in two events. The sprinter posted the fastest result in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.09 seconds. His finish was more than a half-second faster than his closest competitor. In the 200-meter dash, the sophomore crossed the finish line with the seventh-fastest result in the preliminaries and will compete in Sunday's final after his personal-record time of 22.72.
Classmate Jeffrey Ainsley sprinted and jumped his way into the top seed for Sunday's finals in the 110-meter hurdles. The sophomore ran the event in a time of 15.25 and will look to win Haverford's first title in the 110 hurdles since 2004.
Fellow sprinter Alex Frost will represent the Fords on Sunday in the 100-meter dash after posting the eighth-best time in the event during Saturday's preliminaries. Frost blitzed across the finish line in a personal-best time of 11.50 seconds.
Rob Parry placed fifth in the discus throw after tossing the discus 37.93 meters (124-5.0).
Johns Hopkins University currently sits in first place in the team standings with 88 points.
The Centennial meet will conclude at Swarthmore College on Sunday, May 4. The final day of competition will commence at 11 a.m.
