Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's outdoor track and field team was predicted to finish in second place in the Centennial Conference preseason coaches poll. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Haverford, which received one first place vote, was selected to finish second (57 voting points) after placing second in last season's Centennial Conference Championship. The Fords rostered three winners in last year's outdoor competition, including Charlie Marquardt (800m, 1,500m) and seniors Gibby Graves (triple jump) and David Roza (5,000m).

Marquardt is expected to headline a strong class of runners this season. The Haverford senior will be competing in the 800m and 1,500m. During the winter, Marquardt made history when he finished the fifth-fastest mile run in Division III indoor track history. As a team, the Haverford indoor track & field team finished second place in the conference.

Haverford placed second to this year's outdoor favorite, Johns Hopkins. The defending champion was given eight first place votes and gathered 64 points. The Fords have finished no lower than second place in the conference every year since 1990. In that time, they've been crowned Centennial Conference champions 20 times.

The outdoor track and field season will begin on April 1 in the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener.
