Marquardt Posts Fifth-Fastest 1500m In Division III History At Princeton Qualifier

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford track & field All-American Charlie Marquardt finished in 3:42.01 in the 1500m distance at the Princeton Qualifier in Princeton, N.J on Saturday, posting the time while finishing fourth in the second heat of the event. The time is equivalent to a 3:59.57 mile according to the IAAF Scoring Tables of Athletics.

The mark represents the second fastest all-time by a Haverford runner and is now the fifth fastest all-time by a Division III athlete. Marquardt's time is second only to the 3:39.84 from Karl Paranya in 1997 amongst Fords. The Pasadena, Calif. product blew past his previous career best in the 1500m, a 3:43.24 mark set at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier on May 16. The time earned the top seed at the NCAA Championships.

Marquardt became just the seventh runner on the men's side at Haverford to earn six All-America certificates at the conclusion of his senior season. He was named the Centennial Conference Outstanding Track Performer of the Year for the sixth straight season dating back to cross country of his junior campaign. Marquardt was a three-time national runner-up as an individual or relay participant and was also of member of Haverford's second place cross country team during his freshman season.
