Moreland Named Track Performer of the Meet, Men's Track & Field Finishes Third to Wrap Up CC Champs

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford College men's outdoor track & field team wrapped up a solid stint at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a bevy of scoring performances on Sunday, including five podium finishes.

Senior Jamie Moreland was named the outstanding Track Performer of the Meet after capturing both the 800 meters and 1,500 meter crowns in a busy Sunday that also saw him compete as part of the 4x400 meter relay squad that logged a fourth place finish.

Moreland is the first Performer of the Meet from Haverford since Graham Peet during the 2019 season. Haverford has now had nine overall Centennial Conference Outdoor Track Performer of the Meet honorees.

The 1,500-meters saw Moreland establish a new meet record in 3:46.76, also a new personal best for the Los Angeles product. This is Moreland's second consecutive CC crown in the distance. The time is also the ninth best in program history. Reza Eshghi (3:52.28) also capped a stellar sophomore campaign with a scoring performance, while Matthew Denton was eighth in 3:58.71.

Moreland's 800-meter performance also rose to the top of the podium as Moreland finished in 1:52.62. He narrowly bested Trevor Richwine, as Richwine finished in 1:52.92 and Arthur Beyer of JHU also got onto the podium with a 1:54.40 performance. Last season, Moreland took home the bronze, as he upgraded his medal this season en-route to the overall meet accolade.

In the 5,000 meters, Ryan Kredell grabbed his second gold of the weekend, following up his 10,000 meter crown with the gold in the 5,000 meters. In a big Sunday performance, Kredell finished in 14:39.8, with teammate Peter LaRochelle just behind in 14:45.17, a new personal best, for a silver medal performance, his second medal of the weekend.

Aaron Bratt wrapped up his Haverford career in style, taking a sixth place finish in 14:57.22. Kredell continues his decorated season after winning a bronze in the distance race a season ago.

Junior Jonathan Hill made his presence felt in a major way, as he logged a silver-medal winning performance in 21.76 in the 200-meter final, setting a new PR for the second consecutive day after a 22.15 in the prelims, he ran a 21.76 in the final at Ursinus, the second-best mark in program history.

Ravi Eaton scored for Haverford in the triple jump, with Eaton notching a jump of 13.79 meters (45 feet, three inches), setting a new PR and the sixth-best individual mark in program history.

A large part of the scoring success was also featured on Haverford's 4x400 meter relay squad, as the team finished fifth, with Moreland running the fastest 400m split (49 seconds) as the team of Eaton, Denton, Moreland, and Hill finished fourth overall in 3:23.47.

Ursinus claimed the overall crown for the second consecutive season on its home track, with 199 total points. The Bears edged out Johns Hopkins yet again, while the Fords were third with 93 total points, edging out fourth-place McDaniel by one crucial tally. The finish was Haverford's best since the 2018 season when the team finished second.

By virtue of that head-to-head victory in the conference meet over Swarthmore (seventh place, 53 points), Haverford earns a point towards the overall Hood Trophy ledger, with the overall contest tied at 9-9.

With a huge final day of action now in the books, Haverford will next be in action on the track at the Widener Final Qualifier Meet, which is slated for Monday, May 15 with events starting at approximately 3:30 p.m. in Chester, Pa. The NCAA Division III Championships are scheduled for May 25-27 in Rochester, N.Y. at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex on the campus of St. John Fisher.
