PHILADELPHIA – Haverford College junior Christopher Stadler has been named the Philadelphia Inquirer/Philly-SIDA 2012 Academic All-Area Performer of the Year in men's cross country, as released by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association on Tuesday morning. The seven-member all-academic team also includes Stadler's teammate Peter Kissin.

The all-academic team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 institutions from within the Philadelphia Metropolitan area which compose Philly-SIDA.

Stadler's honor marks the third consecutive season a Haverford runner has captured the performer of the year award. Anders Hulleberg '11, the NCAA's 2010 individual champion, started the string two years ago, and Andrew Sturner '12 made it two in a row last fall.

Both Stadler -- the 2012 Centennial Conference individual champion -- and Kissin, a senior, have garnered equal honors during the postseason earning first-team all-conference, All-Mideast Region and All-American honors in the final three races of the 2012 season.

The pair helped Haverford capture its 18th, and third straight, conference title at the Oct. 27 Centennial championship meet hosted by the Fords on their home course. Two weeks later the duo were the first Haverford runners to cross the finish in the team's Mideast region victory, then mirrored that feat at the national championship race a week later with Stadler finishing 12th and Kissin 28th to lead the Fords into a second-place tie at the Division III race.

Kissin, a physics major, has been named to the Centennial academic honor roll in each of his eligible years (2010, 2011, 2012). Stadler, majoring in sociology, is making his second appearance on the academic all-area team (2011) and has earned inclusion on the conference honor roll each of his eligible years (2011, 2012).
