Bevy of Personal Bests as Men's Cross Country Competes at Rowan Border Battle

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. - The 29th-ranked Haverford College men's cross country team finished 16th in a  field of 31 teams at the Rowan Border Battle on Saturday, while resting its top seven runners as preparation for the Centennial Conference Championships ramps up. Reed Solomon was the top Haverford finisher at the Dream Park on Saturday, as he crossed in 51st overall to pace the Fords on the day. 

Solomon (25:57) earned a personal-best with the finish, as the junior crossed ahead of classmate Evan Daniels, who was the next Haverford finisher 57th place overall, completing the course in 26:06.2, also a personal-best mark. 

Senior William Harris finished 82nd in 26:23, a new personal record, while senior Sammy Schindel was the 90th place finisher overall in a personal-best 26:28.2. Sophomore Jakob Maiwald delivered a 111th place finish with a new PR, crossing in 26:38.4. First year Owen Bluman also established his 8K collegiate best in 26:42.6, easily eclipsing his time from the Paul Short Run last month. 

First-years Torin Pelton-Flavin (27:04.7, 143rd) and Luke de Valpine (27:11.8, 155th) were the next to cross for the Fords, also establishing new collegiate bests. Sophomore Joseph De Rosa (27:34) rounded out the Haverford finishers in the championship race. 

In the men's 8K open race that followed the championship, a large Haverford contingent took to the course with senior Charlie Ferguson pacing that grouping in 15th place overall (26:46.7).

Juniors Sam Diaz (28:03.9), and Tommaso Wheeler (28:04.4) then crossed in succession for 51st and 52nd, respectively, with sophomore Deven Abrams also cracking the top 50 in 28:24.4. All three of those times were personal bests. Junior Rowan Shigeno (29:02.1) was the 78th to cross, followed by junior Kieran McDonnell (29:21.8) who set a personal record for 84th place. 

First-year Cullen Worth was 91st (29:37), senior Xingyun Yang notched a 110th place finish (31:06.6), and senior Keqing He rounded out the Haverford grouping in 121st (33:34), with all three earning personal bests. 

A Haverford contingent will now be back in action on Thursday, October 26 at home for the Haverford Invitational (5 p.m.) while the full squad will be back in action on Saturday, October 28 for the Centennial Conference Championships hosted by McDaniel. The men's race is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
