Men's Cross Country Finishes 10th at Princeton Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Haverford College men's cross country team finished the Princeton Invitational in 10th place among the 37 teams in the race on Saturday.

The Fords were the highest non-Division I team in the field. Conference rival Swarthmore tallied a 23rd place finish while Johns Hopkins was 31st. Villanova won the event after placing five runners among the top 11 finishers.

Junior Charlie Marquardt posted his career best time of 24:36 and finished in 18th place to pace the Fords. Senior David Roza also had his best time, posting a 25:11 and a 56th place finish. Senior Joel Christian had a 25:22 and placed 70th. Sophomore Jimmy Gorman raced to his personal best time of 25:27. Junior Nicholas Gandolfo-Lucia shaved almost a minute of his best 8K time with a 25:36. Sophomore Michael Brier ran a 25:56 while senior Soren Rasmussen had his personal best time of 26:26.

Thomas Awad of the University of Pennsylvania won the race that had 301 runners in it with a 24:00.

Haverford also ran in the open race at the invitational and placed seventh among the 27 teams in the event. Senior John Curry had the best time for the Fords with a 26:16. Freshman Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe improved his time from the Paul Short Run with a 26:39.Sophomore Charlie Hale sliced about a minute and a half off his personal best, running a 26:40. Sophomore Evan Hamilton ran a 27:11, a career best.

Head coach Tom Donnelly's team will host the Haverford Invitational on Friday beginning at 5 p.m. and the Centennial Conference Championship on Nov. 1.
