Jauregui-Volpe Is Top Fords' Finisher In Haverford Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 15 ranked Haverford College men's cross country team hosted the Haverford Invitational at the Alumni Cross Country Course on Friday afternoon, with a field that also included runners from Penn, Villanova, Philadelphia University, Widener, Eastern and Penn State Brandywine.

Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe was the top finisher for the Fords, finishing the four-mile course in a time of 21:10.0, good for seventh overall and a new career best in the distance.

Peter Kurtz finished in 12th for the Fords, crossing in 21:20.1. Kurtz was followed closely by Evan Hamilton, who finished in 14th overall with a time of 21:30.3. The 16th through 20th slots all belonged to the hosts, as Lincoln Satterthwaite (21.37.2), Julian Schneider (21.46.3), Michael Schach (21:55.5), Sam McCalpin (21:55.6) and Tyler Fong (22:00) crossed within 23 seconds of each other.

Simon Perales (22:04.1) was just behind an Eastern harrier and ahead of Joseph Boyle (22:11.3) and Chris Goings (22:15.1), who rounded out the top 25 finishers.

David Watt posted a career best time of 22:15.6, followed by Hiro Kawakatsu (22:47.3), James Barker (23:00.7), Liam Bassett (23.18.2) and Conor Madden (23:33.0), with Madden the 35th overall finisher.

Ian Woodhouse (23.44.9), Arthur Chang (24:08.6), Steve Gan (24:18.4) and Josh Frye (25:13.4) rounded out the Haverford finishers.

The individual title went to unattached competitor Nick Steele who finished in 20:28.0. The top attached runner was Andrew Hally of Penn, who crossed in 21:05.2.

Head coach Tom Donnelly's squad will now gear up for the Centennial Championship on October 29 right back at the Alumni Cross Country Course on the Haverford campus. The men's 8K race is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
