Men's Cross Country Opens Up With Alumni Race

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The 22nd-ranked Haverford College men's cross country team competed in its first event of the season on Saturday, hosting the annual three-mile Alumni Open on the Alumni Cross Country Course under ideal weather conditions on a perfect late afternoon for racing. In total, 52 entrants competed between the varsity team and returning alumni. 

For the third straight season, the overall title went to Greg Morgan '19 as Haverford's 2019 Varsity Cup winner has now won two consecutive titles as an alumni after capturing the race as a varsity runner in 2018. Morgan completed the course in 14:56.4 ahead of fellow Alum Eric Arnold '12 (15:08.7).

The top varsity finisher was Aaron Bratt, who toed the line in 15:12.3, while Jamie Moreland (15:15.4) and Max Brelig (15:19.4) also posted top five finishes. An impressive debut performance followed as Miles Colescott (15:20.1) was the sixth place finisher, ahead of a pair of returners in Nico Tripeny (15:23.2) and 2019 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year Ryan Kredell (15:24.3). James Stadler '19 and Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe '18 rounded out the top 10 with finishes in 15:25.5 and 15:27.7, respectively. Charlie Ferguson (15:35.3), Peter Buckley (15:37.3), Amos Karlsen (15:49.4),and Peter La Rochelle (15:52.9) were the other varsity runners to go under the 16 minute mark. 

The full list of alumni finishers included Morgan, Herlihy, Eric Arnold '12, Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe '18, James Stadler '19, David Watt '20, Jossi Fritz-Mauer '06, Jack Hunter '21, Peter Kurtz '19, Joel Christian '15, Conor Madden '19, Ian Woodhouse '19, Sam McCalpin '20, Brian Baillie '05, Charlie Hale '17, Ben Siqueiros '12, Stephen Petro '00, Abe Doroshow '21, Nick Vechick '10, Chris Goings '19, and Liam Bassett '18. 

Haverford will begin its season against outside competition on Friday, September 17, hosting  the Main Line Invitational. The men's race is slated to begin at 5:45 p.m. on the Alumni Cross Country Course.
