Ryan Kredell Named Academic Performer of the Year, Bratt and Tripeny Earn All-Area

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford men's cross country senior Ryan Kredell has been named the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Performer of the Year for men's cross country, the Philadelphia Sports Information Directors Association (PhillySIDA) announced in its annual academic release on Tuesday afternoon. Joining Kredell on the team were fellow Haverford seniors Aaron Bratt and Nico Tripeny. The seniors were three of seven student-athletes across all divisions in the Philadelphia area to earn the distinction.

The teams are voted on by the sports information offices of the more than 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or better. With three honorees, the Fords were the only team with multiple selections to the men's cross country team in 2022. 

Kredell was the pack leader for the Fords, who rolled to the NCAA DIII Metro Regional championship by finishing first out of 25 teams on the strength of his first-place finish (25:23). Following their regional success, Haverford went on to finish 13th out of 32 teams at the NCAA DIII National Championships, in a 29th consecutive appearance at nationals.

In Lansing, the Geneva, Illinois product was the first Ford across the finish line, finishing 17th with a time of 25:21.7. The 2022 Centennial Conference champion and 2019 Rookie of Year was also an All- Metro Region performer and NCAA Championships qualifier in 2019 and 2021. He served as the Centennial Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week three times this season (Sept. 20, Oct. 4, Oct. 18).

This is Kredell's second straight PhillySIDA Academic All-Area selection. Previously, the Economics major also received academic recognition on the 2021 and 2022 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Rolls.

Bratt, of Washington, D.C. picked up the award after an impressive season to cap his Haverford cross country campaign. A three-time NCAA Championships qualifier, Bratt was named All-Metro region this season, and also picked up a top 14 finish at the Centennial Conference championship race, picking up second-team All-Centennial honors. Also an Academic All-Centennial pick this season, Bratt has been named to the CC Fall Academic Honor Roll in each season of eligibility for that award from the conference office. 

Tripeny earns the All-Area plaudit as a two-time NCAA qualifier. He was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Squad in 2021 and is a two-time All-Metro Region performer as well as second-team All-CC team member after the 2021 season. Tripeny has also been named to the CC Fall Academic Honor Roll in each season of eligibility.
