
HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's cross country team hosted its annual Haverford Invitational on the Alumni Cross Country Course Friday afternoon, welcoming a total of 47 runners to campus on a pleasant fall day.
Senior Rowan Shigeno led Haverford with a time of 22:00.9, earning a spot among the top 30 individual finishers. Gopal Patel (22:13.2) and Reef Kirchner (22:22.2) also delivered strong performances, finishing 32nd and 33rd overall. Deven Abrams (22:35.9) and Kieran McDonnell (22:40.7) followed closely in 34th and 35th, respectively, as a large pack of Haverford runners crossed the finish line together.
Just behind this lead group was a trio that included Nicky Elias-Gillette (22:53.6), Seawon Park (23:04.4), and Tate Sheehy (23:12.9), who finished in 38th through 40th place overall. Cullen Worth rounded out the Haverford finishers, just behind Sheehy in 42nd with a time of 23:40.7.
A strong contingent of runners from Navy helped the Midshipmen secure the overall title, placing athletes in first, third, fourth, sixth, and seventh positions for a total of 21 points, edging out St. Joseph's, which finished with 34 points.
Penn did not have enough entrants for a team score but managed to place three runners in the top five. William Shaughnessy claimed the overall title in 20:08.4, followed by Esfan Daya in second (20:26) and Diego Mendez Colon in fifth (20:34.6).
Haverford's top 12 runners will now prepare for the first postseason race of a busy November, as the 2024 Centennial Conference Championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 2, at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa. The men's 8K championship is set to begin at 12 p.m., with the women's championship slated for 11 a.m.
