Red Devils outrun women’s basketball, 81-70

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Dickinson College jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never looked backed en route to an 81-70 Centennial Conference victory over the Haverford College women's basketball team Saturday afternoon at Gooding Arena.

Haverford (3-5, 1-4 CC) was led by Nina Voith's game-high 24 points. Voith scored 17 in the second half and made 11-of-12 from the foul line for the game. Dominique Meeks added 13 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double. Victoria Sobocinski netted 12 points off the bench for the second consecutive game. Calla Miller dished out five assists.

Dickinson placed four players in double-figures led by Brooke Muller's 23 points. Muller had a great all-around day, shooting 8-for-12 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the line while tallying nine assists and six steals. Alesha Sisco scored 19 points, Carole Dempsey chipped in with 11 and Belma Mekic added 10.

The first half was all Dickinson as the Red Devils held Haverford scoreless for the first six minutes and had a lead of 19 points with less than two minutes to play. The Fords shot just 26 percent from the floor, but fared much better in the final 20 minutes.

Although Dickinson kept its foot on the pedal the Scarlet and Black never gave up. The Red Devils shot 55 percent from the floor and led by 27 points, 66-39, with 8:35 remaining, but Haverford closed the game on a 31-15 run. Voith and Sobocinski combined for 17 of those points. The Fords shot 50 percent and connected on four treys in the half.

For the game, Dickinson outscored the Fords, 40-22, in the paint and scored 31 points off 24 HC turnovers.

Haverford will be off for the remainder of the month and return to action Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 when they travel to Franklin & Marshall College for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
