HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's basketball team (10-13, 4-9 CC) dropped a Centennial Conference matchup to 12th-ranked Gettysburg (21-2, 11-1 CC) by a score of 71-33 inside Gooding '84 Arena. Prior to tipoff, the Fords honored seniors Siena Emuobor and Michela Jones in the annual pre-game Senior Day ceremony.
The Bullets efficient offense helped Gettysburg pull out to a 16-4 first quarter lead. Shinya Lee kicked off her memorable game against the Scarlet and Black with six points and seven rebounds, to lead all scorers. Gettysburg pushed up to a commanding 25-point lead at halftime, after outscoring Haverford 20-7, to take a 36-11 lead. Lee and Alayna Arnolie combined for nine of the 20 points in the second quarter, while the Bullets shot an impressive 47 percent from the field. Brianna Feifer and Caroline Orza both contributed three points each for the Fords in the second stanza, scoring more than half of the team's 11 first-half points.
At the halftime break, Lee led all players with 11 points, followed by Arnolie with eight. For the Scarlet and Black, Feifer and Orza paced the hosts with three points each, while Abby Ryan and Audrey Jakway contributed two points each.
The third quarter saw the visitors edge out Haverford 20-13, to claim a 56-24 lead with one quarter to go. Arnolie led the way in the third quarter, as the junior tacked on eight more points, going 2-of-2 from beyond the three-point arc and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. Emuobor started to feel the momentum of her Senior Day, as the Raleigh, N.C. product put up six points in the third quarter, to go along with one rebound and one steal in the stanza.
The Bullets claimed the fourth and final quarter, 15-9, to seal up a 71-33 victory on the road. The visitors took advantage of a 41 percent field goal percentage in the last 10 minutes, with Skylar Reale leading the way with four points. Orza tacked on four more points to her stat line in the fourth quarter, to finish the contest with a team-high nine points.
Lee ended the game with a double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down a team-high 12 rebounds, while Arnolie led all scorers on the floor with 16 points. Orza paved the way offensively for Haverford with nine points, while Emuobor dropped seven points, and Feifer scored six points off of two triples.
Women's Basketball will now return to action under the lights of Gooding '84 Arena on Wednesday, February 19, as the Shorewomen of Washington College take on the Fords in the final home game of the season at 6 p.m. - The contest, which will be the annual Hidden Opponent Green Out Game in colloaboration with Haverford's Hidden Opponent, is a doubleheader with the men's squad taking on Washington College at 8 p.m.
