Hot shooting Fords fall in OT, 76-66, to Green Terror

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Haverford College women's basketball fell to host McDaniel College, 76-66, in overtime Saturday afternoon at the Gill Center. The Fords shot a season best 54 percent from the field, making 27 field goals.

Haverford (3-7, 1-6 CC) placed three players in double figures led by Nina Voith's 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Dominique Meeks shot 7-for-11 from the field for 16 points and Calla Miller netted 12 points and grabbed six boards.

McDaniel (7-4, 6-2 CC) also had three reach double-digits. Ali Moreland scored a team-high 18 to go along with eight rebounds. Katelyn Fischer added 16 points and six rebounds while Ashley Lyles had 14 and tied Moreland with a team-best eight caroms.

The Fords shot the lights out in the opening half, connecting on 68 percent from the floor and 4-for-6 from behind the arc. Voith tallied 19 points on 8-for-11 while Miller buried a pair of treys to help HC to a 36-33 lead heading into the intermission.

In the second half the Scarlet and Black built their lead up to 10, 46-36, with 14:57 remaining. Despite a few McDaniel runs the Fords sizeable lead held up with under six minutes to play. Then the Green Terror reeled off 11 straight points and finished the half on a 15-5 run. A jumper by Catherine Mills put McDaniel ahead by two with 37 seconds left, but Meeks made a layup 11 seconds later to tie the score, 64-64, and send the game into overtime.

In overtime McDaniel kept its momentum rolling by outscoring the Fords 12-2. Miller scored the Fords only bucket on a jumper at 2:51.

McDaniel out rebounded the Fords, 43-30, while scoring 28 points off 26 Haverford turnovers. The big difference in the game came from the foul line where the Green Terror attempted 27 more free throws than HC and made 19.

The Fords travel to nearby Eastern University Monday evening for a 7 p.m. starts before returning home to host Johns Hopkins University Thursday at 6 p.m.
