Three Named All-Centennial for Women's Basketball

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford senior guard Macy Goldbach was named a First-team All-Centennial Conference selection, while junior guard Anna-Sophia Capizzi and junior forward Megan Furch both picked up honorable mention recognition, the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon. Goldbach is the sixth player in Haverford program history to be named to the first team, and the third in as many years as Sierra Berkel '18 was named to the conference's top squad in each of the previous two seasons.

Goldbach picks up her third total All-Centennial nod, adding the award to an honorable mention plaudit a season ago, and a second-team award in 2016-17. Goldbach was consistently one of the top offensive performers in the conference, as the co-captain ranked eighth in the Centennial in points per game, averaging 12.6 points per contest during conference competition. She showed prowess beyond the arc, ranking third in the conference with 42 three-pointers in conference games. Goldbach's 62 three-pointers overall during the season was a new Haverford single-season record in the category.

Goldbach earned a Centennial Conference Player of the Week honor on December 17 after a career-high 25 points against Eastern, also contributing three steals and adding six rebounds in the win. The chemistry major became just the ninth player in program history to reach 1,000 career points after a 23-point effort against Swarthmore on February 13. The Garnet Valley, Pa. native scored in double figures in 21 of Haverford's 27 contests, including five nights with 20 or more points scored.

Most recently, Goldbach was named Centennial Conference Tournament MVP after a 22-point performance in which she shot a season-best 60 percent from the field as third-seeded Haverford took a 22-point victory over top-seeded Gettysburg to claim the program's second Centennial Conference title and second straight NCAA tournament berth. Goldbach currently ranks second in program history in three-pointers made (176) and is eighth in total points scored (1034). Her 366 points scored so far this season is 9th in Haverford single-season history.

Capizzi, a product of Chevy Chase, Md., had a breakout junior campaign for the Fords, starting in 26 of 27 contests in her third season on campus. The guard earned her reputation as a sharp-shooter, ranking fifth in conference competition for three-point shooting percentage (38.1) while also converting on 46.7 percent of her shots from the field in conference games. Capizzi's 12 points per game in conference contests ranks 12th in the Centennial.

Capizzi is currently fourth in Haverford program history in career three-point percentage (.332) and eighth in three-pointers made with 100.  The biology major knocked down a season-best five treys in a win over Swarthmore (Feb. 13) and tallied eight games with three or more three-point baskets. Excelling in the conference tournament, Capizzi was an integral part of the Haverford offense as she poured in a team-best 15 points in a win over Johns Hopkins in the semifinals, adding four steals, and followed up that effort with a 17-point performance in the finals win over Gettysburg.

Furch, of Hazlet, N.J, was a consistent interior presence for Haverford all season long. Furch started all 27 games for the Fords, averaging 10.7 points per game in Centennial contests. The biology major was third in the conference with a 49.2 percent field-goal percentage in conference contests while also collecting 127 rebounds in those games, good for ninth amongst Centennial competitors.

Furch tallied a double double against Bryn Mawr (Nov. 29), adding 10 rebounds to a 12-point night. She was named Centennial Conference Player of the Week after recording double-digit scoring totals in each of Haverford's four games on the week, including 17 points in a road victory over then-No. 20 Gettysburg, and 16 points on a career-best eight made field goals the very next afternoon at The Palestra against Division I Penn. She currently ranks third in program history in field goal percentage (.453) and is climbing the career blocks list, with 46 thus far in her Haverford career.

Adding to Haverford's postseason plaudits was another All-Sportsmanship Team nod for senior co-captain Katie Cook. Cook was named to the team for the second straight season. A consummate leader of the Haverford squad, Cook is Haverford's leader in career games started with 102, and is second in career assists with 392. Cook is currently 23rd in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.21. Her 115 total assists this season, and 4.3 assists per games are also both within the Top 75 in all of Division III.

For the second consecutive season, Haverford (21-6) will continue its fantastic season into the NCAA tournament.
