PHILADELPHIA – Haverford College women's basketball senior co-captain Macy Goldbach has been named to the 2018-19 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Basketball team, the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA) announced in a release on Wednesday morning.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the more than 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area that compose Philly-SIDA.

Goldbach's selection represents the third straight season in which Haverford has been represented on the squad. A season ago, Sierra Berkel '18 and Samantha Wetzel '18 were both named Inquirer Academic All-Area,  while Berkel also took home the honor after the 2016-17 season. Berkel's junior year honor was the first in program history.

Goldbach, a chemistry major with a concentration in biochemistry, was a First-team All-Centennial Conference selection in 2018-19, and was consistently one of the top offensive performers in the conference, ranking eighth in the Centennial in points per game, averaging 12.6 points per contest during conference competition. She showed prowess beyond the arc, ranking third in the conference with 42 three-pointers in conference games.

The guard became just the ninth player in program history to reach 1,000 career points after a 23-point effort against Swarthmore on February 13. The Garnet Valley, Pa. native scored in double figures in 21 of Haverford's 29 contests, including five nights with 20 or more points scored. She was named Centennial Conference Tournament MVP after a 22-point performance in which she shot a season-best 60 percent from the field, as third-seeded Haverford took a 22-point victory over top-seeded Gettysburg to claim the program's second Centennial Conference title and second straight NCAA tournament berth.

The Garnet Valley, Pa. product finishes her career ranked second in program history in three-pointers made (179) and seventh in total points scored (1045). Her 377 points scored this season was seventh in program history.

Off the court, Goldbach was named one of 16 Ambler Scholar Athletes, a plaudit bestowed upon the senior student-athletes with the top GPAs at Haverford. Goldbach has worked as a research assistant in the Department of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Abramson Cancer Center since 2017, and also has served as a teacher's assistant in the chemistry department at Haverford. She has also served on the Haverford College Strength & Conditioning Advisory Committee as well as the Joe Schwartz '83 Memorial ALS 3K Walk/Run Committee.

Haverford finished its season with a 22-7 overall record, the second-most wins in program history. The team reached the NCAA Second Round after a spirited run through the Centennial Conference Championships. The Fords were receiving votes in both national polls heading into the NCAA tournament, and gave voters a reason to believe with a resounding 43-point victory over Main Line neighbor Rosemont that propelled Haverford into a second round matchup with then-No. 4 Tufts. The Fords gave regional host Tufts all it could handle in a 52-46 defeat. Tufts later reached the Elite Eight.
