BRYN MAWR, Pa. -  The Haverford College Women's Basketball team (5-8, 2-6 CC) picked up its second Centennial Conference win of the season over the Bryn Mawr Owls (2-11, 0-9 CC), inside the Class of 1958 Gymnasium on the campus of BiCo partner Bryn Mawr College. The Fords raced out to a 25-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, and maintained complete control for the rest of the contest.

After giving up the first basket of the game to Bryn Mawr's Jessica Smith, Haverford jumped out to a 10-2 scoring run to hold an eight-point advantage over the Owls with 5:46 to go in the opening stanza. In the scoring stretch, Audrey Jakway scored two unanswered buckets, followed by two consecutive triples by Shae Mercer

For the final five minutes and change of the first period, the Fords outscored Bryn Mawr 15-7 to end the quarter up 25-9. In that 15-7 span, Haverford had five different scorers get on the scoring sheet, as Siena Emuobor, Zoe Carlson, Gia Flamini, Abby Ryan, and Sophie Baker all contributed points. Of the 15 points scored to close out quarter number one, Baker rattled off seven points, including her first collegiate three-pointer.

The impressive first quarter performance saw the Fords shoot an imposing 66 percent from the field and knock down three of six shots from behind the three-point arc.

The Scarlet and Black kept their foot on the pedal for the second quarter, outscoring the host Owls 10-5 to take a 35-14 lead into halftime. Both teams saw a stretch of three scoreless minutes go by, until a Jakway free-throw broke the scoreless period to give Haverford a 28-12 lead with four minutes to go in the first half.

The free-throw helped the Fords get back into a scoring rhythm, as Carlson, Baker, and Flamini all found the bottom of the net with the latter scoring the final four points of the quarter for the Scarlet and Black.

At halftime, Mercer and Baker led Haverford in scoring with eight points each, while Smith led not just Bryn Mawr, but all scorers, with nine points.

Half number two started similarly to the first,  as the Fords leapt out to a 9-4 scoring run in the first eight minutes of the second half. In the scoring stretch, the Scarlet and Black were fueled by Ryan who posted four points off of two made jump shots.

To finish off quarter number three, Haverford gained the upper edge over the Owls, outsourcing the hosts 6-0 to head into the final period in full command up 50-18. Emuobor posted four of the final six points of the third quarter for the Fords, while Mercer added another two points on the night.

The fourth quarter was the most evenly contested between the BiCo rivals, as both teams traded baskets, with the hosts outpacing the Scarlet and Black 10-8. However, after the final buzzer sounded, Haverford found themselves on the winning end of a 58-28 scoreline. Of the final eight points for the Fords, first-year forward Lily Zawisny recorded four, matching a season-high.

Baker led the Scarlet and Black in points with 12, while Jakway contributed eight points and pulled down nine rebounds.

After notching another Centennial Conference win, Haverford will play their final game of a three-game road trip, visiting the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins, a team who is currently ranked No. 11 in the latest D3Hoops.com poll, on Saturday, January, 13. The contest will begin at 1 p.m., and will be part of a doubleheader that also sees men's basketball taking on the Blue Jays in Centennial Conference action at 3 p.m.
