Women's Tennis Stopped by Colorado College

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Haverford College women's tennis team wrapped up its annual spring break trip to Florida with a tough match against regionally-ranked Colorado College. The Tigers (5-5) came into the match as the No. 16 team in the ITA's West Region Rankings. Haverford (3-2) is currently ranked No. 12 in the Atlantic South Region.

Doubles had been a strength of the team all week as the Fords were a combined 11-1 in those matches. This included perfect 4-0 records at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions entering Friday. Nevertheless, it was the Tigers who gained the upper hand early with all three doubles victories. The closest match came at the No. 1 position where Greta Koch and Robyn Himelstein collected four games before suffering their first defeat together of the spring.

Koch also found herself locked in the tightest singles match of the evening. The Fords' sophomore, playing No. 2 singles on Friday, bounced back from a tough first set with a 7-5 second set victory to force a decisive 10-point tiebreak. In that tiebreak, Koch won six points before being edged out by her opponent.

Courtney Ahmed also played a tightly-contested singles match as she needed extra points to decide her first set at No. 5 singles. However, she too was edged out in extra points before a 6-4 second set in favor of the Tigers.

With a winning record on its southern trip, women's tennis will now return to campus this weekend in anticipation of more regional competition. The Fords close out the month of March with three straight home matches. The home opener is set for Saturday, March 19 against Wilkes at 12 p.m.
