Women's Tennis Grounds Owls To Wrap Up CC Slate, 6-1

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team (10-5, 7-1 CC) collected their 10th overall victory of the season and seventh Centennial Conference win, in a 6-1 victory over Bryn Mawr (6-8, 2-5 CC) Wednesday afternoon. The matchup between the two Bi-Co foes took place on the Bramall side of the Bettye Marshall and Norman B. Bramall Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon. 

Lucy King and Abhi Menon collected the first doubles victory on court two, with a 6-3 win over Lowery West and Kelli Eng, before Rachael Fitzgerald and Mallika Reddy prevailed 6-4 against Sophie Fenster and Fernanda Hurtado on court one,  to clinch the coveted doubles point. To wrap up doubles play, the duo of Erika Phanord and Caroline Gay completed the doubles sweep on court three, by dismissing the pairing of Carina Roberts and Claire Emanuel 6-3.

The Fords went up 2-0 to begin singles play, as King double-bageled West 6-0, 6-0, on court two, followed by their third victory of the day, Fitzgerald turned away Fenster 6-0, 6-2, in the top flight. Haverford then clinched the match at 4-0, after Phanord got the better of Hurtado 6-3, 6-2 in a showdown at the third flight. 

Court four saw Menon pick up her second victory of the day, by defeating Eng 7-5, 6-2, for the Scarlet and Black's fifth point of the day, before the Owls got on the board with a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6 tiebreaker) win for Lilly Pfister over Sriya Krishnan on court six. Capping off the 6-1 Haverford win was Gay, as the rookie dispatched Emanuel 7-5, 6-2, on the fifth court.

Women's tennis will end their regular season in a non-conference matchup against 12th-ranked Johns Hopkins on Sunday, April 27. The matchup on the campus of Johns Hopkins will take place at 1 p.m.
