Himelstein Wins for Women's Tennis at Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Robyn Himelstein won her match at No. 1 singles on Tuesday evening to lead the Haverford College women's tennis team on the road against Ursinus. Despite collecting the top singles point, the host Bears took the rest of the matches to win by an 8-1 score in Centennial Conference action.

With her most recent victory on Tuesday, Himelstein adds to her team lead with 10 singles victories on the season. The Fords' lone senior has now won three straight matches and is 6-2 during the spring dual season at the No. 1 singles spot. Her victory against Ursinus came in straight sets as she won 7-5, 6-2.

At the start of the match, Himelstein paired up with Abby Payson in doubles and the duo came the closest of the three pairings to pulling out an early victory. Haverford's No. 1 team eventually dropped a hard-fought 8-5 decision. At No. 3 doubles, Annika Ulrich and Stephany Prodromos came out on the wrong side of an 8-4 score, while Courtney Ahmed and Caroline Steliotes fell victim to an 8-3 match in the middle pairing.

Moving into singles action, Payson forced her opponent to go into a decisive 10-point tiebreak but eventually came up just shy in the 10-6 tiebreak. She forced the extra set with a 6-4 win in the second set. The Fords nearly forced deciding sets at Nos. 4 and 5 singles as well. Steliotes and Ulrich each won four games in one of their two sets but just could not collect the necessary games in the closing points to force extra tennis. With the team score decided, Prodromos nearly came away with a second point for the Fords before she fell by a 9-7 score during an eight-game pro set.

Women's tennis will now look to close out its three-match road swing this Saturday when the team travels to Franklin & Marshall. That match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start in Lancaster.
