LANCASTER, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team faced a tough test on Saturday afternoon as the Fords traveled to Franklin & Marshall for a Centennial Conference matchup. The Diplomats swept through doubles despite some tough opposition for the visiting Fords and carried that momentum into singles during an eventual 9-0 win.

The top two doubles positions provided the tightest competition of the first matches to hit the courts. Abby Payson and Robyn Himelstein were edged out in an 8-5 match against Franklin & Marshall's top doubles tandem. Courtney Ahmed and Greta Koch also finished with that same score in their match at No. 2 doubles.

Haverford nearly came away with a couple of sets in singles competition before being edged out by 6-4 scores. Koch made her return to the lineup in doubles and nearly pulled through in her second set at No. 3 singles before falling by the aforementioned score. Her doubles partner, Ahmed, found herself edged out by that 6-4 margin at No. 4 singles.

At the top of the lineup, Himelstein took three games off of the No. 18 player in the most recent Atlantic South Region singles rankings. Caroline Steliotes and Stephany Prodromos each won a pair of games in their opening sets at Nos. 5 and 6 singles. The No. 2 singles match was played in an eight-game pro set where Abby Payson collected four games from the Diplomats' second player.

After three straight Centennial Conference road matches, the Fords will be back at home this week for a pair of conference clashes. Up first will be Wednesday's match at 4 p.m. against Muhlenberg. Dickinson will also make the trek to Haverford next Saturday for a 12 p.m. start.
