BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team jumped in front of Bryn Mawr with three quick doubles points and proceeded to take five of the six singles matches during an 8-1 win against the Bi-Co neighbor Owls on Tuesday evening. The win puts the Fords (7-6, 5-2 CC) on the doorstep of a postseason berth, needing just one more conference victory to punch a postseason ticket.

Haverford got a pair of quick 8-1 wins in the second and third doubles matches. The No. 2 duo of Emily Shutman and Jane Bary improved to 6-2 together this spring and is now 5-2 together in Centennial action. Jessica Liu and Clara Farrehi were the victors of the 8-1 match at No. 3 doubles. The pairing of Liu and Farrehi is also 6-2 overall with a 5-2 mark in conference this spring.

The Fords' top pairing made a clean sweep of doubles with an 8-5 win. Greta Koch and Abby Payson recorded their fourth win together this spring during that match. Three of their wins together have come against Centennial Conference competition.

Moving into singles play and using five new players, the Fords did not lose any momentum as three of the matches fell their way in straight sets. The most convincing of those wins was a 6-0, 6-0 blanking by Ali Morrow at No. 3 singles. Morrow is now 7-3 on the year with a 3-1 record in spring dual matches. Jia-Ling Tuan edged out her opponent in a tiebreak during the first set of No. 2 singles before a 6-4 victory in the second. Courtney Ahmed was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at No. 4 singles. Tuan is now 3-1 this spring while Ahmed recorded her second singles win of the year.

Haverford also won a pair of matches that went to decisive third sets at Nos. 5 and 6 singles. Stephany Prodromos won her spring debut at No. 5 singles with a 10-5 victory in a 10 point tiebreak. She dropped a tough tiebreak to start the match, but was a 6-0 winner in the second. Izzy Angstman improved to 2-0 this spring with a 6-2 win in her opening set and 6-0 win in the third set of the No. 6 singles match. The Owls got their only team point of the evening as Farrehi was edged out in a 10-7 tiebreak at No. 1 singles.

Women's tennis can officially punch its ticket to the postseason this Saturday as the Fords travel to Dickinson. That match is slated for a 1 p.m. start. The Fords will return home next week as they close the regular season with a pair of home matches.
