Women's Tennis Honored with ITA Academic Awards

ITA Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced that the Haverford College women's tennis team has received the All-Academic Team award and had nine players achieve scholar-athlete status.

This marks the 16th consecutive year that the women's tennis team was honored with an ITA All-Academic Team award. To receive an All-Academic award, a team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above.

The Haverford scholar-athletes honored were Jane Bary, Renata DiDonato, Clara Farrehi, Claire Johnson, Mima Khazanov, Ananya Prakash, Emily Shutman, Anne Tobin, and Natalie Williams. For student-athletes to earn an ITA Scholar-Athlete status they must be a varsity letter winner and have a grade point average of at least 3.50. Those nine student-athletes honored tied Haverford for the seventh-highest total among all Division III institutions.

Complementing the team's academic success this spring was the Fords finishing the 2018-19 campaign ranked 13th in the final ITA Atlantic South Region team rankings. The Fords (8-8, 8-2 CC) fell only to nationally-ranked opposition throughout the entire spring season and advanced to the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament after finishing third in the regular season standings.

The Fords were ranked as high as No. 8 in the region throughout the year and really found their stride in Centennial Conference play, setting a program record with 10 straight Centennial Conference regular season victories dating back to the 2018 season. Haverford has made the Centennial Conference Tournament in three straight years and 10 of the last 11 overall. The Fords have made it to at least the semifinal round of the conference tournament during all but one of those playoff appearances.
