EWING, N.J. – In its final preparations for the upcoming Centennial Conference Championships, the Haverford College women's track & field team competed at The College of New Jersey's Lions Invitational on Saturday.
Haverford came away from the meet with a pair of top five finishes. The 4x100 relay team of Brittany Steele, Taylor Murphy, Grace Mathis, and Kerry Quigley recorded a fifth place finish as it crossed the line in 51.36 seconds. Steele, the opening leg of that relay, also placed fifth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.73 seconds.
The second leg of that relay, Murphy, also competed in the 100 meters where she placed 20th with a time of 13.21 seconds. She was 21st in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.67 seconds. Mathis also ran the 100 meters and finished in a time of 14.47 seconds, while Anya Bernhard was 56th in this event. Tess Oberholtzer was the team's top finisher in the 100 meter hurdles as she crossed the line in a time of 16.67 seconds. Bernhard was 43rd in that event.
The Fords also entered three runners in the 400 meters. Quigley was the fastest Haverford runner in that field with a time of 1:04.37. Yue Xiang was just behind her with a time of 1:04.90, while Amy Zamora clocked in at a time of 1:06.31. Julia Smith was Haverford's lone entrant in the 800 meters where she finished in 2:31.99. Liana Alves represented the Fords in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:32.07.
Next weekend's Centennial Conference Championships will get underway on Friday with the decathlon and 10,000 meter races. Dickinson will serve as the host of the championship event. The Centennial Conference Championships will span three days continue through next Sunday.
